Helen McGhie (Photography)
Helen McGhie is a photographic artist using the still and moving image. She investigates interiority and the photographic gaze through images of the female protagonist, darkness, dust, abandoned rooms and remote places. McGhie graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2014 and is currently working on a practice-led PhD at the University of Sunderland, in partnership with Kielder Observatory, Northumberland. Her project ‘Stargazing at the ‘Invisible’: Photography and the Power of Obscured Light’ is exploring approaches to the ‘visual’ or ‘non-visual’ image in order to create a female experience of cosmic darkness.
